Use the cottage as your base to explore

The cottage is ideal if you are looking for a quiet retreat or just want to explore the veld, but it is also a great base from which to explore the surrounding area.

De Mond Nature Reserve

Cape Nature’s De Mond Nature Reserve is a small but ecologically important reserve with the Heuningnes River estuary as its focal point and has been a Ramsar wetland site since 1986. The reserve is a must-visit for bird watching, hiking amidst coastal fynbos, and fishing.

The veld area where the De Mond Veld Cottage is situated borders the reserve and it is just a 600m walk to the entrance gate, where the normal entrance fee applies.

Bredasdorp is the nearest major town to the cottage and is the best destination if you need to pop to the shops. Other attractions include:

  • The Shipwreck Museum with its theme of “Shipwrecks along the dangerous Southern Cape coast and their influence on the development of the Strandveld”
  • The Kapula showroom with handcrafted Kapula candles, ceramics and more
