The restored veld cottage is situated on the seaside portion of De Mond farm owned by the Kilpin family amidst 25 hectares of pristine fynbos that is completely separate from farming activities.

The cottage is approximately 600 metres before the entrance gate to Cape Nature's De Mond Nature Reserve. This reserve lies at the mouth of the Heuningnes River - an area between the nearby coastal villages of Arniston and Struisbaai. This unspoilt jewel of the Southern Cape Coast is a must for the discerning visitor and nature lover who is interested in coastal fynbos (especially beautiful in early spring), birds, hiking, photography and fishing. 180 species of birds have been identified in the area. It is also a fly fisherman's paradise.
